Andre Hill’s family hired Ben Crump, according to multiple posts on social media by Crump and his law firm.

Hill, 47, was shot dead by Columbus police officer Adam Coy at around 1:50 a.m. on Tuesday outside a garage on the 1000 block of Oberlin Drive.

The body camera footage released on Wednesday shows Coy firing about 10 seconds after first meeting Hill. Coy and another unidentified officer responded to a non-emergency call about a vehicle that was parked on the street and had been in use for some time.

Mayor Andrew J. Ginther said Wednesday that Hill was an expected guest at the house where the shooting took place and was not an intruder or a crime.

The video with the body camera shows that at least six minutes passed before Hill was given help.

Wednesday night, Crump tweeted that his company was being kept by Hill’s family. Crump has received recognition for representing the families of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor after they were killed by law enforcement.

Crump is based in Florida, but his law firm has offices across the country.

Coy was suspended and Ginther requested his immediate release on Wednesday. Security Director Ned Pettus said there would be a disciplinary hearing. This process takes at least several weeks and can take a month or more.
