Homophobic Resort Company Shamed Out of Pool After Profanity-Laced Freakout Over Two Girls Kissing

Arizona House and Senate lawmakers have passed laws prohibiting teaching students anything about “sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression” without first obtaining a signed parental consent.

This means that the lessons about the artist and Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci, the astronaut Sally Ride, the founder of computer science Alan Turing or the late First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt – who were all LGBTQ – a signed consent from the parents of a student requires.

Should Republican Governor Doug Ducey sign SB 1456, sex education will also be banned until they reach fifth grade. Thereafter, any class on “sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression” requires “written consent from a student’s parent or guardian”.

The bill is so poorly written that easy reading means that any teaching or discussion about sexual orientation requires prior parental consent. Sexual orientation also includes heterosexuality, ie any teaching about heterosexual marriages.

The bill updates the current law as follows: “A public education institution must obtain signed, written consent from a student’s parent or guardian prior to… GIVING THE STUDENT SEXUAL DIRECTIONS OR DIRECTIONS REGARDING SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER IDENTITY, OR GENDER EXPRESSION. IF THE PUBLIC EDUCATION INSTITUTION REQUESTS CONSENT, IT WILL AT THE SAME TIME NOTIFY THE PARENTS OR THE STUDENT’S BOARD OF THE PARENT’S OR BOARD’S RIGHT TO REVIEW THE TEACHING MATERIALS AND ACTIVITIES. “

Written consent is also required: any information about HIV / AIDS.

The ACLU says the legislation stigmatizes LGBTQ students:

Two years ago, we hoped Arizona lawmakers would take a step away from bigoted measures like the Arizona No Promo Homo law, which harms and stigmatizes LGBTQ students.

The bill may be unconstitutional and likely to violate Biden administration guidelines, which means the Department of Education could sue the state and withhold education funding.

This is a current and evolving story. Details can change.
