Hollywood Expertise Company WME Cannot Halt Writers’ Boycott
Law360 (Jan 4, 2021, 5:04 pm EST) – Hollywood talent agency William Morris Endeavor cannot receive an order to halt the boycott of the Writers Guild of America over an agent pay dispute. This has been decided by a California federal court. on the grounds that the boycott of the guild was a protected action under the federal labor law.
U.S. District Judge André Birotte Jr. wrote in a ruling on Wednesday that the court was prevented from issuing an injunction against the boycott that resulted from WME’s refusal to sign a new franchise agreement that included a new ” Code of Conduct “governing alleged conduct contained conflicts of interest between writers and talent agents.
