Hearth, EMS staff eligible for Employee’s Comp – Farmville

Cumberland County Fire Service Volunteers and EMS workers are now eligible for Workers Compensation Insurance.

During a meeting of the Cumberland Board of Supervisors on Tuesday June 8th, board members passed a resolution allowing volunteer members of the county fire and rescue services to be eligible for coverage under the Commonwealth of Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act.

During the meeting, District Administrator Don Unmussig noted that during the budget discussion, officials had determined that only one volunteer fire department in the county covered workers’ compensation insurance for its members.

“The county needs to make sure that every volunteer who enters a burning house in this county is covered,” he said.

The resolution was passed unanimously.
