FX Docuseries on Combat for LGBTQ Civil Rights – /Movie
FX starts Pride Month with its upcoming documentary series a few weeks earlier Proud. Pride is a six-part documentary that explores the decades-long struggle for LGBTQ civil rights. It’s made by LGBTQ filmmakers Tom Kalin, Andrew Ahn, Cheryl Dunye, Anthony Caronna, Alex Smith, Yance Ford and Ro news while examining the history of LGBTQ pride from the 1950s to 2000s. Proud at first sight
Directors Tom Kalin, Andrew Ahn, Cheryl Dunye, Anthony Caronna, Alex Smith, Yance Ford and Ro Haberdive step in front of the camera for the first look at Pride and explain the importance of the documentary and its historical theme, and the fight is still on today, and the struggle for transgender rights is still going on.
“This is the story of America. There’s no room for complacency, we need to know our story, ”said the executive producer and showrunner Alex Stapleton described from the struggle for LGBTQ rights.
The six-part documentary series focuses on everything from the FBI’s surveillance of homosexuals during the Lavendar Scare of the 1950s to the Culture Wars and AIDS crisis of the 1990s. Each episode is directed by a different filmmaker who brings his own personal experiences and struggles to the story. Pride will also include archived footage from decades of struggle, as well as interviews with key figures such as Madeleine Tress, Videographer Nelson Sullivan, Bayard Rustin, Writer Audre LordSenators Tammy Baldwin and Lester Huntand transpioneers Christine Jorgensen, Flawless Sabrina, Ceyenne Doroshow, Susan Stryker, Kate Bornstein, Dean Spade and Raquel Willis.

With little-known characters like Madeleine Tress or the 1980s videographer Nelson Sullivan who recorded a disappearance of downtown New York City during the AIDS epidemic, the series also features international figures like civil rights pioneer Bayard Rustin, writer Audre Lorde and Senators Tammy Baldwin and Lester Hunt. The development of trans rights and identities over the decades is documented through interviews and archive recordings of pioneers such as Christine Jorgensen, the flawless Sabrina, Ceyenne Doroshow, Susan Stryker, Kate Bornstein, Dean Spade and Raquel Willis.
Pride will air on FX starting the first three episodes at 8:00 p.m. ET May 14th and the last three episodes will air May 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The day after their premiere on FX, all episodes can be streamed on Hulu. You can see the previous trailer for Pride here.
