Former Mayor Pleads Responsible to Fees From Insurance coverage Scheme| Staff Compensation Information

An insurance agent and former mayor of a southern Illinois city pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators for sharing a commission his agency earned on a labor expense policy with the city mayor who bought the coverage.
Former Red Bud Mayor Tim Lowry pleaded guilty on Friday, according to a Belleview News Democrat report. He was sentenced on November 22nd and faces up to five years in federal prison.
Former Columbia Mayor Kevin Hutchinson recommended that the city obtain an accident insurance and workers’ compensation policy through the Ackermann Agency, where Lawry worked as an agent.
Between 2016 and 2018, Lowry Hutchinson paid approximately $ 16,000 in commissions for the referral.
Both Lowry and Hutchinson were charged with lying to federal investigators for the Public Corruption Task Force of Southern Illinois and refusing to make payments.
Hutchinson, who resigned as Columbia Mayor in March, pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents and was sentenced to two years probation, a fine of $ 500 and 40 hours of community service in June.
