Wisconsin lawmakers have been told that if they fail to allow first responders to seek worker compensation for PTSD, they will double and triple suicide over the next 20 years.

Police officers, firefighters and rescue workers spoke during a Senate committee hearing on Monday.

They say that people who do what they do for a living need to have access to the help they need.

DePere’s Senator Andre Jacque, the sponsor of the law, is optimistic that it will be before the Wisconsin Senate next week.

The Labor and Regulatory Reform Committee is expected to vote on Thursday.
