Federal DOT Halts Texas Freeway Growth Undertaking Over Civil Rights Considerations
The Department of Transportation has halted a $ 7 billion highway expansion project in Texas to expand I-45 on the edge of downtown Houston.
The department cited the Civil Rights Act as saying that the highway widening plan would displace about 1,300 houses, schools, shops and places of worship in colored communities. The Biden government has vowed to make racial justice a central focus of its policies, including infrastructure.
