FBI Investigating ‘Huge’ Alleged Marketing campaign Finance Scheme to Assist Fund Susan Collins’ Re-Election: Report
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating a suspected campaign funding program that has been classified as “massive” and that has a political action committee involved Senator Susan Collinsand direct donations to the Collins campaign. The Maine Republican won re-election in November, despite polls showing her Democratic challenger beat her.
“A recent unsealed search warrant shows that the FBI believes a defense company in Hawaii illegally transferred $ 150,000 to a pro-Collins Super PAC and returned donations to Collins’ campaign. There is no evidence that Collins or her team knew about it, ”reports Axios.
The report reveals that Senator Collins, who sits on the Defense Subcommittee of the powerful Senate Funds Committee, helped the contractor land a $ 8 million Navy contract before most of the donations went. That contractor is the Martin Defense Group, formerly known as Navatek.
Allegedly a shell company was used. Federal contractors are prohibited from donating to Super-PACs.
“Former Navatek CEO Martin Kao was charged last year for allegedly accusing the federal government of millions of coronavirus aid loans,” said Axios.
The Collins campaign “had absolutely no knowledge of anything that was alleged in the warrant,” a Collins spokeswoman, Annie Clark, told Axios.
Maine voters voted Collins for a fifth term with 9 points. No Maine senator has been voted five times by the people. It was a far cry from previous Super Majority victories, “the Bangor Daily News reported at the time,” but after every public poll it was clear [Democrat Sara]Gideon ahead. The Democrats had raised their hopes of flipping the Senate on Maine, which resulted in more than $ 200 million being spent on the race. “
