Detroit Mercy Legislation pupil awarded A. Vince Colella Civil Rights Scholarship – Michigan Attorneys Weekly
Detroit Mercy Law student Allison Koltunchik will receive the A. Vince Colella Civil Rights Scholarship in 2021.
Colella, co-founder of Moss & Colella law firm specializing in personal injury and civil rights, established the 2019 Annual Scholarship at his alma mater to support and encourage Detroit Mercy Law students who display academic excellence and have a deep interest in joining the battle . against social and racial injustice.
“It is an honor to be able to contribute financially and as a mentor to Allison Koltunchik’s legal education,” said Colella. “The importance of the civil rights advocacy work is growing every day, and I am confident that Allison will ultimately make important legal contributions to ensure equal legal protection.”
Koltunchik, who has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University and will graduate from Detroit Mercy Law in the spring of 2022, is the first in her extended family to attend law school.
Outside of the classroom, Koltunchik serves as the vice president of Lawyers Lending Hands, a nonprofit that helps raise funds for local organizations. She has also worked for a local law firm specializing in social security disability insurance law.
