NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Malcolm X’s three daughters joined civil rights attorney Ben Crump on Saturday to reveal what they believe is evidence that the NYPD and the FBI conspired to murder him.
The civil rights activist and prominent representative of the Nation of Islam was killed in the Audubon Ballroom in February 1965.

Three men were convicted, but conspiracy theories have sprung up over the years as to whether anyone else was responsible.
On Saturday, the cousin of a late police officer said that officer Ray Wood alleged in a deathbed declaration letter that his job was to infiltrate civil rights groups and encourage leaders and members to commit crimes.
He also claimed he had been instructed to arrest Malcolm X’s security detail days before he was murdered.
Now Crump is urging the Manhattan District Attorney to take action.

“The question is, will they act to finally give restorative justice,” said Crump.
A spokesman for the NYPD Office of the Assistant Commissioner for Public Information released the following statement:
“A few months ago, the Manhattan District Attorney launched an investigation and prosecution review that resulted in two convictions for the Malcom X murder. The NYPD has provided the District Attorney with all of the records relevant to this case. The department continues to seek to assist in any way with this review. “
The DA’s Manhattan office communications director issued a statement stating, “Our office’s review of this matter is active and ongoing.”
