Coral Springs Agrees To Pay $60,000 In Staff’ Compensation Case
CORAL SPRINGS, FL – The city of Coral Springs is reviewing its drug-free workplaces guidelines after agreeing to pay $ 60,000 to settle a former employee’s compensation case.
City commissioners on Wednesday approved payment to cover legal fees for former medic / firefighter Eric Friedman in his case against the city.
According to a city note, Friedman, 50, was undergoing “re-acclimatization” training and suffered a shoulder injury.

He failed a drug test in 2019 after an injury, the memo said. A city investigation found Friedman violated the city’s drug-free workplace policy and made a false testimony to a medical investigator.
Friedman’s right to workers’ compensation was denied and he later resigned from the department where he had worked since 1998.
He hired a lawyer to question the city’s drug-free workplace policy.
In reviewing the case, the city lifted the denial of the claim, the memo said.
The city accepted the “indemnity” for Friedman’s accident at work and approved his legal and other costs.
Friedman is also entitled to 10 weeks of “impairment income,” the memo says.
As part of the case, city officials are working to update the drug-free policy to ensure that it complies with the requirements of state law.
Friedman could not be reached for comment.
