Civil rights attorneys to hunt over $30 million in Andrew Brown, Jr. demise lawsuit

ELIZABETH CITY, NC (WITN) – A federal lawsuit is expected to be announced Wednesday for MPs shooting of an Elizabeth City man in April.

National civil rights attorneys Ben Crump, Harry Daniels and Bakari Sellers will be in Elizabeth City to review the Andrew Brown Jr. death files.

The lawsuit claims more than $ 30 million in damages and punitive damages, according to a press release.

Brown was shot dead by Pasquotank County MPs on April 21 while issuing search and arrest warrants.

The shooting was recorded by MPs’ body cameras and shows Brown trying to drive away in his vehicle while several MPs are shooting at him.

Pasquotank District Attorney Andrew Womble reviewed the footage and declined to indict MPs in the case as the shooting was warranted. Womble said Brown hit a deputy in his car and nearly ran him over while ignoring orders to show his hands and get out of the vehicle.

Brown family lawyer Chantel Lassiter described Brown’s shooting in April as an execution.

Brown’s death sparked months of protests on the streets of Elizabeth City.
