Capitol Police Knew In regards to the Risk of Professional-Trump Extremist Violence however Ignored FBI, NYPD Warnings: NBC Information
Capitol Police were warned that something big was coming for President Donald Trump for the January 6 event, but they ignored those warnings, NBC News told.
The report said the FBI and NYPD heard of threats ahead of Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally before the electoral college count. “The FBI has even visited more than a dozen extremists who are already being investigated in order to urge them not to travel to Washington,” senior police officers said.
Newsweek reported last week that officials from the FBI, Intelligence, Homeland Security, the District of Columbia government, the Pentagon, the National Guard, and the Joint Task Force – National Capital Region all knew what was coming from Trump’s supporters. Somehow, however, the Capitol Police missed the memo.

A senior FBI official told NBC News.
Members of the Capitol Police were filmed opening gates to allow Trump insurgents to enter the Capitol, and some were even filmed taking selfies with some of the rioters. There is growing evidence that the plans and plans of many extremists have been broadcast online, which begs the question: Why weren’t the FBI and Department of Homeland Security prepared for the insurrection? In the FBI’s case, officials turned to the Capitol Police for assistance during the riot, but were turned away.
The Capitol Police Chief has submitted his resignation.
“Capitol Police’s failure to anticipate, prevent and respond to the violence is confusing and appalling,” wrote Georgetown professor Rosa Brooks on Friday. “But in many ways it is a direct result of the way the police force protecting the legislature is organized, with far too little accountability or diversity, disorganized oversight and too many opportunities for politics to sneak into its mission . “
There is no oversight for the Capitol Police except for Congress, which explains why the police force evolves to reflect the wishes of elected members. Give the Capitol is a federal institution. Probably the best course of action would be to put the Capitol Police under the supervision of the Secret Service or the FBI.
