California Cleansing Firm Charged for Employees’ Compensation Scheme
Employers with minimum wage workers need to ensure that their compensation practices are in compliance, as 23 states will have minimum wage increases in 2021, according to the National Law Review.
Ballotpedia said the increases range from $ 0.08 an hour in Minnesota to $ 2.25 an hour in Virginia, bringing the state minimum wage from $ 7.25 an hour to $ 15.00 an hour.
States with a minimum wage increase starting January 1 include:
- Alaska – $ 10.19 to $ 10.34
- Arizona – $ 12 to $ 12.15
- Arkansas – $ 10-11
- California – $ 13-14
- Colorado – $ 12 to $ 12.32
- Illinois – $ 10-11
- Maine – $ 12 to $ 12.15
- Maryland – $ 11-11.75
- Massachusetts – $ 12.75 to $ 13.50
- Minnesota – $ 10-10.08
- Missouri – $ 9.45-10.30
- Montana – $ 8.65 to $ 8.75
- New Jersey – $ 11 to $ 12
- New Mexico – $ 9-10.50
- Ohio – $ 8.70 to $ 8.80
- South Dakota – $ 9.30 to 9.45
- Vermont – $ 10.96 to $ 11.75
- Washington – $ 13.50 to $ 13.69
The minimum wage in Virginia will increase from $ 7.25 to $ 9.50 on May 1st, and on July 1st the rate in Nevada will increase from $ 8 to $ 8.75 and the rate in Oregon will increase from $ 12 to $ 12, $ 75 rise.
The minimum wage in Connecticut will increase from $ 12 to $ 13 on September 1, and in Florida from $ 8.65 to $ 10 on September 30.
According to Ballotpedia, the 2021 minimum wage hike (as well as the late 2020 minimum wage hike in two states) were due to civic initiatives approved by voters in 11 states and bills approved by lawmakers in 14 states. According to the National Law Review, the minimum wage will also rise in a number of counties and cities this year.
Not everyone was happy with the increases. According to the Cape Cod Times, housekeepers and other low-income workers in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the $ 0.75 increase isn’t enough to make a living on the high cost of housing in the area.
