Bloomfield City Council women and Bloomfield Civil Rights Commission host a community meeting on the implications of COVID-19 and women’s labor

The meeting will take place on Wednesday March 31st at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The women of Bloomfield City Council and the Bloomfield Civil Rights Commission will host a community meeting on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected working women and their jobs. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 31st at 7:30 p.m. on Zoom.

The conversation focuses on both personal and professional experiences over the past year and provides participants with inspiration, advice and recommendations for the future.

Local residents join this discussion, which some outstanding working women will join as we discuss the challenges heightened by the pandemic and the pandemic

how we can work together personally and through politics to overcome them in 2021 and beyond. “

“Over the past year, many women have had to balance responsibility for caring for a family, managing virtual learning with their children, and / or caring for older relatives, while balancing those responsibilities with their careers.” said councilor Dr. Wartyna Davis. “Unfortunately, as a result of this crisis, women have had to retire disproportionately from the labor force, and when you consider race and socio-economy, the effects on women of skin color are particularly problematic.”

The meeting will include a panel discussion between Bloomfield residents and other professionals. Guests at the meeting include Dr. Natascia Boeri, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Bloomfield College, Sheana Ditri, Psychiatrist and Assistant Director, Staff Assistance Program, RWJBarnabas Health, Dr. Diane Hill, Assistant Chancellor, University and Community Partnerships, Rutgers University Newark, Natalie Lupani, Vice President of Benenson Strategy Group, and Marieangelic Martinez, CEO, Martinez Martial Arts (Bloomfield, Belleville and Newark) and Bloomfields Best Kids.

“As we see the light at the end of the tunnel of this public health emergency, it is important to discuss the unique challenges women have faced this year and how we can better position ourselves if we can get over them.” said councilor Sarah Cruz. “We’ll have a phenomenal panel with us on the 31st and I hope to see a lot of residents there.”
