JEFF: WELCOME ON SUNDAY. We honor women’s contributions throughout the month. BRITT DOUGLAS TELLS US THE ROLE BLACK WOMEN PLAY TODAY IN THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT AND THEIR FIGHT. REPORTER: It found its purpose when it was only 21 years old. ACTIVISM. AFTER THE DEATH OF HER FLOYD, SHE BEGAN TO PROTEST WITH BLACK LIVES IN KELLY INGRAM PARK. Then in her hometown, where she was arrested and sent to prison. That experience had led her to set up her own organization. >> It was brutal. It was dehumanizing. REPORTER: YOUR FIGHT CONTINUES. It was part of a demonstration at MONTGOMERY led by most black women for a bill designed to criminalize protesters. REPORTER: WOMEN FIGHTING ON THE FRONTLINE DATE BACK TO PINK PARKS. She often says that women don’t get the credit they deserve. >> WE REALLY ARE THE BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANIZATION. I don’t think there would be a movement without us. >> I feel like their roles have been switched where I now see more black women than black men fighting. Which is great, but it’s a shift from what we’ve seen in the civil rights movement. REPORTER: TODAY WE HAVE BLACK WOMEN GUIDING THE WAY. SHE LEADS THE ORGANIZATION THAT GETS MY TIME AND JOINS WITH THE PROTEST IN MONTGOMERY. >> IF YOU DO WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH I FIRST THINK OF BLACK WOMEN AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT AND HOW PIVOTAL WE WERE.
