Arkansas Lawmakers Go Invoice Banning Medical doctors From Offering Medically-Crucial Therapy to Transgender Minors

Republicans in the Arkansas House and Senate have just passed law banning doctors and other medical professionals from providing medically necessary treatments and services to transgender minors. If Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson, who has already signed several anti-LGBTQ laws earlier this month, signs HB 1570, experts warn that the lives of transgender youth will be at risk.

The ACLU called it “one of the most extreme and harmful anti-trans laws in the country” and warned shortly before the law was passed that if it is signed it will be “the most extreme piece of anti-trans law ever signed became right. “

Legislators have incorrectly labeled the legislation the “SAFE (Save Adolescents From Experimentation) law”. The Senate vote on Monday was 28-7. The house bill was sponsored by Republican MP Robin Lundstrum, and the Senate bill was sponsored by Republican Senator Alan Clark (photo).

“House Bill 1570 would prohibit health professionals from providing or even referring transgender youth to medically necessary health care,” the ACLU explains. “It would ban all government funding for gender-affirming health care for transgender people under the age of 18 and allow private insurers to deny coverage of gender-affirming care to people of all ages.”

But that’s not all.

“Doctors providing medically necessary care for trans teenagers would run the risk of losing their license and will be brought to justice by individuals and the state,” said the ACLU.

ACLU attorney Chase Strangio:

After a really brutal and brutalizing debate, the Arkansas Senate passed comprehensive anti-trans law HB1570. We have to call @AsaHutchinson on VETO.
