Arizona GOP Spits on John McCain’s Grave, Says No to Period of “Civility”
In a New Year’s Eve tweet, the Republican Party for the Arizona 28th Legislative District encouraged its supporters to “respect all elected Republicans living and deceased,” adding, “Hostility will not enlarge the party or win elections. We are home to the most recent and former elected officials and honor their service and memory. Courtesy is important. “
But the main chapter of the Republican Party of State did not have it.
In response, the Arizona Republican Party Twitter account commented, “When the sun sets in 2020, remember we will never return to Romney, Flake and McCain’s party. The Republican Party is now and forever for the working man and woman! God bless.”

Republican Senators Mitt Romney from Utah, Jeff Flake, and John McCain from Arizona were all known for their willingness to work with Democratic colleagues. But the Arizona GOP doesn’t want people like that, including McCain, who was a former military prisoner of war who died of brain cancer in 2018.
In the 2008 presidential election, McCain Arizona won with 10 points. In the 2020 presidential election, Trump lost Arizona by 0.3 points. So much for courtesy!
Keep in mind that the Republican Senate passed largely no signature laws during the Trump administration other than a tax break for the rich and two declining helpful COVID-19 stimulus packages. That said, the inability of Senate Republicans to work with Democratic counterparts has made the institution largely unusable and has not even advanced an infrastructure bill most Americans support.
It’s no surprise the State party is taking this inflexible, tough approach, as its top members largely joined an absolutely insane lawsuit to give Vice President Mike Pence the opportunity to single-handedly declare President Donald Trump the 2020 winner Elections despite Trump losing over 7 million votes.
That case, which even Pence himself wanted to throw away, was duly dismissed last night by a Trump-appointed federal judge.
