A local writer has a book signing this week that covers a lot on the history of Alabama.

Alabama Department of Tourism director Lee Sentell is the author of The Official United States Civil Rights Trail and will be signing copies of its document Book with Books-A-Million in Eastchase on August 19th from 4pm to 7pm. Lee was on a national tour to promote his book by visiting major cities featured in his book. The book “The US Civil Rights Trail” covers 120 attractions in 15 states, where travelers can learn the history of the foot soldiers and civil rights movements that changed our world. Lee wants his fellow Montgomery residents to read his book and feel personally connected to the story.

Lee Sentell had this to say why he wrote this book: “One of the reasons we thought it was necessary to have a book like this is because civil rights history isn’t actually taught even in Alabama schools, and so we have 14 cities selected, they have the most civil rights history and the museums and the churches, because after all this is a tourism promotion, it is not just history. “

Art Meripol is the photographer for all of the images in the book. Lee Sentell will also be at Books-A-Million in Birmingham on August 20th for another book signing.
