AG Creates New Division to Give attention to Labor Points| Employees Compensation Information

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced the formation of the Department of Justice Department’s Labor Rights and Fair Labor Division, which will focus on issues such as misclassification and wage theft.

Becerra pledged to use the attorney general’s law enforcement powers to ensure fair labor and business practices.

The new Labor Rights and Fair Work Department will protect workers from being unreasonably classified as independent contractors, according to a statement released by Becerra’s office.

The department will also focus on wage violations, including employers who do not pay overtime or allow meal and rest breaks.

This will strengthen the Department of Justice’s ability to respond to emerging health and safety issues such as those related to COVID-19.
