Aaron Boone, manager of the New York Yankees, had surgery on Wednesday to get a pacemaker.

Boone, who underwent open heart surgery in 2009, said in a statement that he had been drowsy, low on energy, short of breath, and diagnosed with a low heart rate for the past six to eight weeks.

However, Boone said he expected to be back at work. He expects to return to work “in the next few days”.

The announcement came hours before the Yankees were due to play the Toronto Blue Jays in their fourth spring training session in Florida.

The Yankees will play the first regular season game against the Blue Jays on April 1st.

Boone said the doctors he consulted “are confident that today’s surgery will allow me to resume all of my usual professional and personal activities and give me a positive long-term health forecast without making any lifestyle changes . “

Boone, 47, had surgery to replace an aortic valve in March 2009.

“The thoughts of the entire organization are with Aaron and his family as he undergoes this procedure and takes the time it takes to properly heal,” Hal Steinbrenner, managing partner of Yankees, said in a statement. “Our only priority at this point is Aaron’s health and wellbeing and we will support him in all ways throughout his recovery.”
