Ted Cruz Repeatedly Lies About Merrick Garland in Committee Speech – Will get Smacked Down With Fact From Dem Chairman
US Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), along with many of his Republican colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee, voted against the appointment of Judge Merrick Garland as the next attorney general on Monday in a speech designed for the Fox News and OANN cameras – and the fact that lady.
In short, most of Cruz’s allegations were lies that were easily put down by committee chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL).
“Not only did he refuse to answer questions in the hearing,” Senator Cruz falsely said, “not only did he refuse to answer questions for the record, but Judge Garland is one of the few candidates in the Biden Cabinet to who refuse to attend face-to-face meetings. ” with senators – categorically refuse to take them. Several other Biden nominees take them on. “
Cruz later extended his lie into an outright lie, claiming that Judge Garland “essentially refused to answer all questions”, saying, “When asked after question after question, Judge Garland refused to answer virtually anything.”
Judge Garland, 68, ruled he did not want to risk face-to-face meetings during the pandemic. He offered to meet through Zoom, as Justice Committee chairman Dick Durbin later explained to Cruz, noting that Cruz refused to meet with him on Zoom. Every Republican in the U.S. Senate refused to meet with Garland in 2016 when he was a Supreme Court candidate.
“If he’s unwilling to answer questions before being approved, the chances that he’s willing to answer questions after he’s approved are less likely to answer the questions,” Cruz continued.
Again, Chairman Durbin Cruz reminded that Republicans sent Garland nearly 850 questions in writing, including 127 from Cruz. Garland answered them all. As in his personal attestation hearing, he said so when he did not know the answer.
Republicans falsely claim that Judge Garland refused to answer all of their questions, but Judge Barrett refused to answer more than 100 questions during their hearing and well over 150 additional questions for the record.
Judge Garland replied almost 850.
