Former employee claims he was fired from Myrtle Seaside mayor’s firm for submitting for employees compensation

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune’s family business is being sued after a former employee claims he was fired for filing compensation for workers.

On January 22nd, Jonathan Gomez filed a lawsuit against “Better Brands, Inc.” one, Mayor Bethune’s family drinks distribution company, claiming he was fired in retaliation for filing compensation for workers.

In November 2020, Gomez suffered a work-related injury while working for the company, according to the lawsuit. In the complaint, he claims that he went to a doctor who diagnosed him with the injury and placed work restrictions on him.

After informing the company of his injuries, Gomez filed for employee compensation before being fired on Nov. 24 “in direct retaliation for filing an employee compensation claim.”

In the complaint, Gomez also alleges negligence, saying that the company’s “negligence and negligence” caused “physical injury, serious psychological injury, including, but not limited to, embarrassment, humiliation, exclusion from friends, fear, grief, emotional distress, physical stress and other psychological injuries. “

Gomez seeks actual, future, punitive and liquidated damages, reinstatement of his job, interest, legal fees, costs, judicial proceedings by a jury and other relief
the court considers it right.

Better Brands Inc. had no comment on the pending litigation.
