Fb appoints a vp of civil rights
Facebook has hired a vice president of civil rights to improve how it handles such issues. Roy Austin Jr., a longtime civil rights attorney and attorney, will found Facebook’s civil rights group and serve as assistant general counsel. However, the company has yet to disclose the full scope or objectives of the organization.
“I’m very excited to join Facebook at this moment as there is a national and global civil rights awakening taking place,” said Austin, who previously worked in the Obama administration and co-authored a report on big data and civil rights, said in one Statement “Technology plays a role in almost every part of our lives, and it is important that it be used to overcome, rather than exacerbate, the historical discrimination and hatred that so many underrepresented groups have faced.”
