FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Allen County Public Library’s (ACPL) new gallery exhibit focuses on the
Civil rights movement in Fort Wayne that dates back to the 1960s and continues until the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests.
“Protests and promises unfulfilled, with ‘voices’ from DJ E-Clyps” contains images from local archives of civil rights and repeal protests in the 1960s. It also includes 25 images by photographer DJ E-Clyps, whose work has been featured in Time and New York Magazines, ACPL said. The images are unique from those featured on DJ E-Clyps’ show at Artlink last year.
“I always hope that my photos lead to conversations that lead to solutions. Whether with me or with someone who is close to you, in order to really talk to each other and not just assume that you know them from social media, ”said DJ E-Clyps in his artist’s statement that he wrote for the exhibition.
The committee consisted of artists, academics and historians from the region. Members were:

“The aim of the library with this exhibition is to promote understanding that the events of last summer were not isolated. There is a long history of racial and social justice protests in our area. By combining historical images with current events, we hope to provide context and help people understand how many decades we have had this conversation in our community, ”said Stephanny Smith, Director of Community Engagement-ACPL and a member of the Organized Committees the exhibition.
The exhibition is open to the public on Friday and runs until September 12th. Galerie Krull is open during the opening hours of the main library.
