Rand Paul Blames ‘Exorbitant Taxes’ for Police Killing of Eric Garner (Video)

US Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) says the NYPD’s 2014 asphyxiation of an unarmed black man, Eric Garner, was attributed to “exorbitant taxes.”

Garner had quit his job as a horticulturist for health reasons and the police were arresting him for allegedly selling loose cigarettes without tax stamps on a packet.

“In fact, the death of Eric Garner, the sad death of Eric Garner, who was suffocated in New York, had to do with taxes,” the Kentucky Republican Senator claimed on Senate floor Friday morning.

“And some people are offended by it, oh, it’s police brutality.” Of course it was. But it was the brutality of the police over exorbitant taxes that led this man to sell cigarettes. loose cigarettes to make a living, “said Paul.

Garner didn’t sell loose cigarettes because taxes were too high. If anything, the lack of access to health care is far more due to health reasons forcing Garner to quit his job and take to the streets to make money selling cigarettes than paying taxes.
