Derek Chauvin, three different former officers quickly to face federal civil rights violations

(CNN) – Derek Chauvin and three other former police officers will soon face federal civil rights violations, according to media reports in Minneapolis.

Based on local reports, the Department of Justice intends to prosecute all four former officials in connection with the death of George Floyd.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune and KSTP-TV say the DOJ intends to ask a grand jury to indict Chauvin, J. Alexander Keung, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao.

Chauvin is due to be convicted of accidental second degree murder, third degree murder and second degree manslaughter in June.

The other three former Minneapolis police officers will be tried in August for supporting and facilitating second degree murder and second degree manslaughter in George Floyd’s death.

Chauvin could face further civil rights violations over the violent arrest of a 14-year-old in 2017.

The DOJ and attorneys for all four former police officers have refused to discuss the local news about the civil rights charge.
