Just before the US House of Representatives voted between 216 and 208 Thursday to make Washington, DC a state, Ohio State representative Mike Loychik posted a tweet insisting “the founders never intended to make Washington DC a state “.
It’s not technically wrong, but – as many corrected it – in the light of the fact that the founders never intended that many things, including allowing women and blacks to vote, that people who owned no property should vote, and As some noted, what difference does it make for Republicans to “riot”?
The founders originally had no plans to make Washington DC the seat of government. First it was New York City, then Philadelphia.
Rep. Loychik, who had just tabled a bill to get Ohio taxpayers to spend $ 300,000 on renaming Mosquito Lake State Park in Donald Trump’s honor, did not respond to any of the educators, but posted a tweet hours later in which he attacked Democrats:

That is inaccurate. Article IV, Section 3 of our US Constitution laid down the path to statehood. Article I, Section 8, defines the purpose of the capital of our nation, which is not to be a state.
