Girl Who Gave Delivery In Jail Bathroom Reaches Settlement In Civil Rights Lawsuit

A woman who put her baby in a prison cell toilet reached an agreement with the state of Connecticut.

A $ 250,000 prize pool is split in three ways: one-third of the money goes to the woman’s attorney, about $ 112,000 to the baby, and the rest of the money goes to the mother once she serves her sentence did The Associated Press.

Tianna Laboy gave birth to the child when he was incarcerated at the York Correctional Institution in Niantic in 2018.

Laboy filed a civil rights lawsuit against the state in 2019 alleging she was denied necessary medical care.

Details of the settlement were revealed on Saturday, December 12th, when the AP received a copy of the state-owned agreement between Laboy.

Laboy, 23, is in jail and is serving a seven-year sentence for failing to fatally stabbed a man in New Britain in 2017.

While the settlement does provide financial relief, it does not address the systemic changes that Laboy was seeking, including training prison staff to better identify medical emergencies.
