Trump-Appointed State Dept. Aide With Prime Secret Clearance Beat Officers With Riot Defend At Jan. 6 Rebellion: Report

A Trump-appointed U.S. State Department aide allegedly hit U.S. Capitol officials with a stolen shield, used it to open a Capitol Hill door that was verbally associated with police, and led insurgents into the building and exclaimed, “We need fresh people, need fresh people. “

These new details come from the Washington Post after Politico released news Thursday night that the State Department aide was Federico KleinAppointed by Trump in 2017 after working on the Trump campaign, was arrested by the FBI in connection with the deadly January 6 riot.

The New York Times added that Klein was arrested on charges “including illegal entry, violent and disorderly behavior, obstruction of Congressional and law enforcement, and attack on an officer with a dangerous weapon.”

Klein was “featured in video footage and other images wearing a red Make America Great Again” hat, pants and shirt as he tried to pass a line of metropolitan police officers in a tunnel near West Terrace to break [court] Document.”

The 42-year-old Klein previously worked as a researcher for the anti-LGBTQ hate group Family Research Council, according to Politico. The president of this group, a close informal religious advisor to President Donald Trump, was appointed to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom by then Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. He served as chairman and later as vice chairman.

“Klein was still an assistant at the State Department on Jan. 6 when he joined a mob in a tunnel that led into the US Capitol, the FBI said,” reports the Washington Post. “Then he allegedly ‘physically and verbally dealt with the officers who hold the line’ at the entrance to the building, the complaint said. After ignoring the officers’ orders to withdraw, he attacked the officers wearing a shield that had been stolen from the police and used the shield to open a door to the Capitol. “

Klein resigned from the State Department on January 19.
