“In many ways, the firm’s focus has never changed in nearly 170 years: our primary purpose is always to serve our clients, and we cannot do this without the best lawyers in the business,” says Norris. “What is constantly changing is what our customers need. Clients face budget constraints so we need to adapt in order to be able to provide quality legal services more efficiently while remaining profitable. “

Norris will continue to invest in attracting and retaining various lawyers.

“Clients are now demanding that their law firms commit to diversity just like they do,” says Norris. “I expect a lot of my time is spent on our human capital – recruiting and retaining top talent and working our people to figure out how we can always better serve our customers.”

Norris is the recipient of the Michigan Labor and Employment Law Council’s Distinguished Service Award from the State Bar. She served on the US District Court’s Advisory Committee on Local Rules, the Board of Directors of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, and chaired the Detroit City Police Commission in 2003 and 2004, among others.

Under McGee’s leadership, the firm renewed and strengthened its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion of law firms, becoming the only law firm in Michigan and one of only 24 nationwide to achieve Mansfield Plus certification for three consecutive years. Certification is awarded to law firms that meet standards for significant representation of women, colored people, and LGBTQ + lawyers in leadership positions. Ohio and Qatar.

“I have been fortunate to work with Mike McGee and the directors as both group leaders and general managers, and I am honored that they have chosen me as the company’s next CEO,” says Norris. “I am grateful that he will remain a valued partner and trusted advisor as we begin the company’s next decade.”
