WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, along with 27 civil rights and education organizations, today called on Senators to confirm Catherine Lhamon as Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the Department of Education. Relying on Lhamon’s extensive experience, including serving in the same position during the Obama administration, the groups urged the Senate to swiftly approve her so she could get down to enforcing civil rights laws to protect all students in our country from discrimination .

“The Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights is one of the most important roles in the formation of our country’s students, and Ms. Lhamon is an exemplary candidate for the position. She has a proven support for our country’s civil rights laws and marginalized communities and a proven commitment to the belief that every student has the right to study free from discrimination and to be treated with dignity, ”the groups wrote.
