Greenwich Excessive Faculty Broadcasts 2021 Graduation Speaker

Greenwich High School is pleased to announce Joan Lunden, journalist, writer, television presenter and parent of Greenwich High School, as the speaker for the beginning of 2021.

Greenwich High School principal Ralph Mayo said Lunden was not only an accomplished journalist but also the mother of a graduate.

“As such, she really knows how special and unique our school community is and gives our students wisdom from the perspective of a real partner and participant,” Mayo added.

“As the parent of seven children who all attended Greenwich High School, I am incredibly excited to address graduating class in 2021,” said Lunden. “Over the past year we have observed the challenges the pandemic has posed for our students and I am so proud of this group of young people who have shown their strength and resilience. I am honored to be part of your story. “

An award-winning journalist, best-selling author, television presenter, and motivational speaker, Joan Lunden has been a trusted voice in American households for more than 40 years. For almost two decades, Lunden greeted the audience every morning Good morning America This makes her the longest running female presenter on early morning television.

Lunden remains one of America’s most recognized and trusted personalities, which has made her a sought-after speaker at events across the country. A passionate advocate for health and the elderly, Lunden has testified before the Food and Drug Administration, which has advocated mandatory reporting on mammograms and the Congress House’s Ways and Means Committee for the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Lunden is the host of the host of the PBS television series, Second opinion with Joan Lunden and the Washington Post podcast series, Take care of tomorrow about the future of healthcare. Lunden is also the ambassador of the Poynter Institute MediaWise for seniors Program that trains people over 50 in media literacy and separates fact from fiction on the Internet. Lunden recently joined Lehigh University’s College of Health as a visiting professor teaching public health and media.

As part of the sandwich generation, Lunden’s demographics are far-reaching. She is the mother of 7 children, including two pairs of teenage twins. Like many boomers in America, she has managed to be a working mom while caring for an aging parent, and brings that experience to her role as spokesperson for the nation’s premier senior citizen referral service. A place for mom, a company that helps caregivers and families find the right care and resources for their loved ones. Lunden also encourages Americans to ensure that they have adequate health insurance coverage to look after their health and wellbeing as the spokesperson Assurance Medicare Benefit Program.

As one of America’s most visible women, Lunden has graced the covers of more than 60 magazines and book covers. Lunden’s newest book‘Why did I come into this room: An open conversation about aging quickly became a New York Times bestseller.

In June 2014, Lunden was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. An eternal optimist, she used her diagnosis as an opportunity to become an advocate and help others. She shared her experience in her memoir Did I Knew It. Lunden continues to interact with American’s Daily on their website Joanlunden.com as well as on their social media platforms. Lunden was the national spokesperson for various organizations such as the American Heart Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, American Lung Association, American Red Cross, American Academy of Pediatrics, and Colon Cancer Alliance.
