ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed the New Mexico Civil Rights Act, which strengthens the protection of the rights, privileges, and immunities of New Mexicans under the Bill of Rights of the state constitution.

The measure enables a person to sue any public agency – such as the state, city, or county – or its employees for violating civil rights under the New Mexico Constitution. It also prohibits the use of qualified immunity as a defense to deprive a person of these constitutional civil rights.
