Civil rights teams search US probe of Kansas Metropolis police

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (AP) – Civil rights groups want a state investigation by the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.

The Kansas City Star reports that on Monday the city council asked the Justice Department to investigate.

Civil rights activists say there is a problem with the police using excessive force and killing black men. A Kansas City police spokesman said the department is already working with the Justice Department to report possible civil rights violations or excessive violence under a 2015 agreement. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker says it supports a state investigation.
