Civil Rights Legal professional Ben Crump Reply to Firings of officers in Breonna Taylor killing

National civil rights attorney Ben Crump and co-advisors Sam Aguiar and Lonita Baker respond to anticipated layoffs of Det. Joshua Jaynes and Det. Myles Cosgrove in killing Breonna Taylor
Jaynes provided false information when he received a search warrant that led directly to Taylor’s murder. Cosgrove fired the fatal bullet

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump and two advisors Sam Aguiar and Lonita Baker issue the following statement in response to the anticipated layoffs of Det. Joshua Jaynes and Det. Myles Cosgrove in the Breonna Taylor case:

“Thanks to the allegation made in May by Louisville Postal Inspector Tony Gooden, we have known for over seven months that the warrant executed in the Breonna Taylor case was based on lies. Yesterday, the Louisville Metro Police Department finally admitted that they intended to terminate Det’s employment. Joshua Jaynes and Det. Myles Cosgrove.

“By including false information on an affidavit, Det. Jaynes has committed perjury and should be arrested and charged for breaking his oath as an affiant. Likewise, Det. Cosgrove ruthlessly opened fire in Breonna’s house with complete disregard for human life and never identified or acquired any specific target before shooting and killing Breonna Taylor. Ultimately, both should be held criminally liable.

“There is no revelation here. We have known since Bre’s murder that her death was a direct result of the lies, corruption, and total misconduct of the Louisville Metro Police Department. We applaud the diligent efforts of Chief Gentry, who stepped in to investigate the events surrounding the murder of Breonna Taylor, rather than just postponing the attorney general’s incompetence.

“Justice has been consistently denied to Breonna and her family, first by the LMPD and then by Attorney General Daniel Cameron. It’s time to stop. And it ends with Det’s arrests and convictions. Joshua Jaynes, Det. Myles Cosgrove, and all other officers whose lies, deceit, and reckless actions resulted directly in their deaths. Anything less than criminally prosecuted here by a competent public prosecutor is unacceptable. “
