Kristen Clarke, a civil rights attorney, has been appointed assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice by United States President-elect Joe Biden to lead the division’s civil rights division.
If approved by the Senate, Clarke will lead the Department of Justice’s civil rights division, where she will enforce civil rights laws and ensure equal justice for all Americans.
Clarke is currently the President and Executive Director of the Civil Rights Advocacy Committee, a national nonprofit that played a prominent role in the 2020 election.
“This job is about justice. It’s about equality. And under our DOJ we will move closer to the REAL meaning of equal justice before the law, ”Clarke tweeted.

Clarke’s parents immigrated to Brooklyn from Jamaica. In the past she has stated that she “grew up in a household where discipline, hard work at school and the best of every opportunity were all about”.

Dr. Allan Cunningham, a member of the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council for the southern US, was also delighted with Clarke’s appointment.
